Dar al Saqi

Established in 1987 in Beirut, Dar al Saqi is the sister company of Saqi Books. With around eighty new titles a year, Dar al Saqi is renowned for publishing progressive and groundbreaking works, and the best in new Arabic literature and non-fiction. Dar al Saqi authors include Mahmoud Darwish, Adonis, Nawal El Saadawi, Shirin Ebadi and Rajaa’ as-Saneh.

Dar al Saqi has also established itself as the Arab publisher of western phenomena such as Candice Bushnell’s Sex and the City, Richard Dawkins’s The Selfish Gene and Brian Whitaker’s Unspeakable Love: Gay and Lesbian Life in the Middle East, the first book on homosexuality to be published in Arabic. Other translated works include Wild Swans by Jung Chang, Alberto Manguel’s History of Reading and Hannah Arendt’s On Violence.
